A. Scrabble as media used in Mtsn Unggul susoh
I do assignment visit school in Mtsn Unggul susoh when I went back to my village cause there is my family agenda. Actually that was my junior high school ago, so it is my pleasure to come to the school at that time. Based on the interview that conducted with Mrs. Ida Setia, S.Pd. On 9 May 2017 in order to visit school with the aim of seeing the media which use in teaching learning English. The common media is white board but there is another media that sometimes use for teaching, one of them is scrabble, fortunately they are using it when I went there, that is way I saw the teaching learning process.
Scrabble is a game as media for teaching English which always become populer from day to day, I mean never out of the date. The students were happy to play scrabble in the class under teacher controling around the class because they look so enjoy but serious in playing.
B. Technique of using scrabble
Scrabble is a board game and a game of composing a word played by 2 or 4 people who collect points based on word values formed from pieces of letters on board game boxes (15 columns and 15 lines).
The game seed is a square shaped piece with the letter on one side. The player picks up as many as seven pieces of letters from a pocket, and tries to arrange the word horizontally or downhill like a crossword puzzle. The words made must be words that are allowed to be played based on the standard dictionary according to the language being played. The player who collects the highest total points is declared the winner.
Actually in the beginning of the class before going to play, the teacher should explain the rules to play but it is different because they have been play in some time, so that they really understand. At that time, teacher just give direction to make group consist of 4 students each group.
Teacher as the controler, just see how the situation in the class during the course. Some minutes before the bell ringing, teacher ask to finish the game and see who students get the higher score.
C. The benefits of scrabble
Mental benefits of playing Scrabble are truly rewarding ones. For some this particular benefit is the most valuable. Such benefits include mathematical ones such as exercising the ability to add. Other benefits incorporate strategy and Spelling skills. A unique skill developed from playing Scrabble is known as anagramming or “forming words or phrases by rearranging its letters.” – Dictionary.reference.com
Some people proudly proclaim wonders Scrabble did for them with their spelling. The thing about the game that people enjoy most is the everyday usage words they have discovered and words they have not even thought of. The more you play the game better it gets!
